What are ADA compliant restroom signs?
All ADA compliant signs have similar characteristics, like those shown on the image to the left. They have raised text letters, one or more raised pictograms, Braille letters and there is a high contrast between the surface of the letters and pictograms and the background color. We design ADA and Braille signs in any size. ADA compliant restroom signs come in 3 standard shapes and sizes; a rectangle that is is 6 inches wide by 8 inches high, a 12 inch triangle and a 12 inch round shape.
Our ADA compliant signs contain the Braille characters, i.e. the raised dots as shown in the image to the left that are cast as part of the plaque and can't be scratched off, and are appropriate to the sign itself. The Braille letters are arranged in 'cells' that may have up to 6 raised dots - arranged in 2 columns of 3 dots each. These cells can each represent a number, letter, complete word or punctuation mark. Braille can be written in both uncontracted form and contracted form (where a single cell may represent an entire word). Contracted form is the more common form found on signs containing Braille letters.
Our ADA signs are complaint with the applicable ADA sign specifications when they were designed
. Since local codes vary and frequently change, it is your responsibility to confirm compliance with any local code requirements.
